The company was founded by Mahin Gupta in late 2012 under the name Buysellbitco.in and is India's first bitcoin exchange. Later it was rebranded to Zebpay in September 2014 adding two more partners - Saurabh Agrawal and Sandeep Goenka.[2]

Zebpay is India's first bitcoin company to launch simplest mobile Bitcoin wallet app that enables bitcoin transactions using mobile number without any complexities to understand bitcoin addresses, taking backups or fear of losing bitcoins. Using Zebpay wallet app, users can buy, sell, store and spend bitcoin using mobile number and a 4-digit pin.[3]

Zebpay was voted as best new bitcoin company at CoinAgenda conference in Las Vegas in 2014.

In September 2016, it was announced that Zebpay had crossed 100,000 downloads on Android and iOS stores combined.

Zebpay crossed Rs 500-crore turnover and did more than Rs 100 crore of trade turnover in November 2016.[4]

In December 2016, Sandeep Goenka interviewed on Rising Stars by Bloomberg TV India.

In December 2016, Zebpay has over 250,000 users.
